Prune

I only got C1 Prune despite going double pity on Nicole’s banner. I’m glad to have her, though I don’t know if I’m really going to build and play her. because I have no idea which teams she would fit in. I’m going to build Nicole first in any case.

I started the third story, 宗像與鋼筆事件, and I absolutely love the beginning. It’s written under the pen name 中田永一, and I believe it’s the pen name the author used mostly for romance? (I’m not entirely sure). I thought the story would differ completely and be an entirely different style, but so far it feels similar to the previous one, 山羊座的友人, with a similar setting and topic (school bullying).

Chapter 3 is so great!! I wish I could read more today, but I don’t have time and I’m super tired.
And, I was able to change the font again! I don’t why it didn’t work last time, but this time it let me change the font for the main text, not just the letters and other stuff that have a different font.
I hate fonts that have horizontal strokes lighter and thinner than vertical strokes, especially if it’s so thin it’s barely visible. And minus point if they have serif (or the equivalent of serif).
But now I could choose the 華康青花黑體 font, same weight for all strokes, super uniform, nice thick black strokes without those decorative little triangles at the end of horizontal strokes. Simple and easy to read, I love it, it’s perfect! :heart-purple:

I might have added too many words today… It’s so easy to add words with my new system compared to Anki, but I don’t have a cap of new words per day, maybe I should add that… At the same time, it’s so easy to review words now, and I see them multiple times in different contexts, so flashcards are much easier to go through. But 30 new words today already is a lot.
Though to be fair, they are not all strictly speaking new words, some are words I don’t know that well and I’m afraid I might forget them if I don’t add them to my flashcards (so for example, words that were in Anki but for which I often hit “again” or “hard”.)

,,, I’m not sure I loved Nicole’s demo trailer all that much…
Still looking forward to tomorrow I’ll just pull one copy, no weapon. I recently decided to not pre-farm for new characters because I find it fun to build them slowly, actually farm their materials with them and see the performance increase. So nothing is ready for her, I don’t even know what materials she needs
I’m looking forward to exploring with Nicole, I still need to unlock the compasses of the new regions though (I think her ability only works if we already have the compass?)

冰风迷途的勇士
WordReadingDefinition
迷途 mí tú to lose one's way

The warrior who lost their way in the blizzard… yes that’s Blizzard Strayer. Sometimes, I just never really think about what names of items actually mean in English. I accepted Blizzard Strayer as a name, without really thinking about what “strayer” meant. And then I saw this name in Chinese, tried to translate it, and got a aha! moment when I realised it’s actually Blizzard Strayer.

无虞 wú yú not to be worried about
虞美人 yúměirén corn poppy

I just learned 无虞 which was at the end of Gorou’s letter, and if I’ve already encountered the hanzi of a word in another word, my flashcards will tell me. So this allowed me to realise that 虞 is the same as in 虞美人, which is a word closely linked to Charon. It’s in the name of his Ultimate, itself coming from his voiceline: 士兵不会瞑目,纵使虞美人盛开, which is one of my favourite voicelines in all Reverse.
But anyway, of course, in 虞美人 the character is a surname, so it has nothing to do with the meaning of fear, dread and worry we have in 无虞, that’s why I probably would never have realised that it’s actually the same character in both words if my flashcards hadn’t shown it to me.

Finally fully built… I also bought his weapon. I don’t care if other support weapons are better, I always give characters their signature. I still don’t know how to play him exactly, I really need to re-read his kit or watch some videos.

Birthday Mail Tuesday · 19 May

Gorou
WordReadingDefinition
日渐 rì jiàn to progress (or increase, change etc) day by day
络绎不绝 luò yì bù jué (idiom) continuously; in an endless stream
市井 shì jǐng marketplace; town; the street (urban milieu)
辅佐 fǔ zuǒ to assist (usually a ruler)
调解 tiáo jiě to mediate
日趋 rì qū (increasing) day by day; (more critical) with every passing day; gradually
领海 lǐng hǎi territorial waters
御敌 yù dí armed enemy of the nation; enemy of the Emperor
将领 jiàng lǐng high-ranking military officer
精益求精 jīng yì qiú jīng (idiom) to constantly seek to improve; to keep perfecting
表率 biǎo shuài example; model
耕耘 gēng yún plowing and weeding; farm work; fig. to work or study diligently
无虞 wú yú not to be worried about; all taken care of

Why does it feel that this birthday mail is strangely outdated? Gorou describes the shift in his duties from the time when he was mainly a wartime leader to the present days of peace where he needs to implement administrative policies, mediate commercial disputes, supervise maritime patrols… Shouldn’t he be used to all this by now? This letter feels like it should have been written the year following the end of the Vision Hunt Decree, or maybe two years after, but it feels outdated to me now… I don’t know…
I still can’t pronounce Japanese names in Chinese, it sounds so weird. So when I see 海祇岛, I always think “Watatsumi Island”, not hǎiqí dǎo. Similarly, 鳴神島 is Narukami Island, not míngshén dǎo.

小李
xiǎo lǐHsiao Li
Narrator’s former college roommate, gynaecologist.
柏芳惠

Xiao Li’s wife.

Qin, from the prologue was also a roommate from medical school, and now the beginning of chapter 3 mentions two other roommates, so they were at least 4. I thought it was a lot already, but now the narrator mentions they actually were 6 in a room.. that’s a lot!

WordReadingDefinition
派 pài clique; school; group; faction; (bound form) style; manner; to send (a person or resource); to dispatch; to allocate (a resource or task); to appoint (sb); classifier for factions, groups etc; (loanword) pie

It took me forever to understand why and how 派 made sense in this dish… I don’t know the name in English but it looks like a roll filled with white filling (“fresh mild” and “pearls”). But because I know 派 as “clique”, “faction”, I thought it would be something related to the dish lore. But looking at the word’s definitions, I saw it’s also used as a loanword for “pie”.

I finished 山羊座的友人, this short story was absolutely fantastic. The author has such a talent to make us care deeply for the characters.
But this story really amazed me, because I thought it would mostly be focused on characters, but it turns into a real mystery where clues lead to deductions which then lead to an unexpected ending. It’s really an amazing short story!

Only a few pages today, I’m really sleepy and tired. And the weather is so hot already, I can’t stand it anymore and it’s just May…
The passage I read also described characters enduring Southern Taiwan’s hot weather, so I could easily relate.

I finished working on Corvus’ voicelines. I’ll do Rubuska next. I’m working my way in reverse given that the audio of the recent characters is not available on the wiki yet. I don’t know exactly when they will be, maybe when the character becomes standard? I only do characters I have.
I guess I should also study Corvus’ kit… R1999 character kits are such a pain to read and fully understand.

So does this mean that both my C3R1 Mizuki and my triple-crowned Qiqi will get a buff?? Two of my favourite characters!! This is absolutely fantastic
And I’ll choose Mizuki with the next selector, so she’ll be C4 soon! :sparkle:
This reminds me that I should finally do Durin’s Witches’ Homework! At least before Nicole’s release. It’s crazy to think I still haven’t done any, but I only really played Durin in Xiao’s team, and to be honest, I was kind of burnt out at the time with the AQ, and his SQ was quite long too…

摹忆中枢
WordReadingDefinition
摹 mó (bound form) to imitate

The Center to recollect (memory, recall…) and imitate (copy, duplicate). I’m not sure if I was supposed to know 摹… It might have been in my Anki? I have the feeling that Zhongli used it during the last Lantern Rite talking about antiques, and if so, then I added it to Anki, but apparently, I didn’t memorise it.
I did completely abandon my old flashcards and started again from scratch, so this kind of situation is bound to happen, but overall, it was not as bad as I thought. I already added a ton of new words because the new system is so easy to use!
