The biggest change of September is the addition of a fourth book to my reading habits. I made a special slot for wuxia novels 
. The thing is that most of them are very long (my current one is 800 pages+) and reading them takes me a lot of time. It’s not necessarily a language level thing, but there are a lot of names and concepts I don’t know, so looking everything up takes time.
If I kept the pace of one book per language at one time, it means I would not be able to read crime novels in Chinese for months… This is also the main reason why I was reluctant to pick a new Gu Long novel, after finishing 流星蝴蝶剑 even though I couldn’t wait to go back to the genre.
So now, I’ll always (or not, I don’t know) have a wuxia novel on the side. I decided to limit myself to one chapter per day, so that it really stays a side read. With this pace, I’ll be able to finish 多情剑客无情剑 this year, and I’ll probably continue with 小李飞刀 series next year.
It’s interesting that this month is quite unbalanced: I read my absolute favourite book (I want to say of all time) of the year, and even though I liked the other ones overall, none of them really stands out either, which is rare.
I really can’t tell how much I loved 山中邪神 
, more than Gu Long and more than any crime novel I read this year. Not only that, but this book is also a fantastic source for Chinese vocabulary, and I’ve been studying some passages of it since I finished it. And it’s also the book that triggered my decision to add a wuxia novel to my readings.
As for the others, my favourite read this month is probably 警察迷途中：誰是兇手, which I actually did love, but it’s also probably my least favourite of the series of books that share the same fictional world/background. Similarly, I loved あるフィルムの背景 but not as much as the other collection of short story I read 夜の終る時. 법의 체면 was also mixed, I absolutely loved the legal short stories, but the SF ones were less my cup of tea.
Genshin used to be my only source of vocabulary for my flashcards, but now I’ve added a ton of words from 山中邪神. I have so many new words waiting, I don’t know how long it will take me to catch up. I also don’t know if I should add words from Gu Long too, for now I still have so many vocab from 山中邪神 waiting to be added still, that I haven’t really considered it yet 
As for Genshin, I haven’t finished adding words from Act II, so I’m very late with that. I don’t know when I’m going to start playing Act III but I can’t wait to catch up with vocab anyway…
I’m also testing some new exercises like fill-in-the-blank things and writing/dictation exercises.
I watched three films this month and enjoyed them all, especially 消失的人 which I really loved. Ziam was a nice action film, not the best zombie film ever, but delivers exactly what people would look for in a zombie/modern martial art combat film. Obsession was great too, but 消失的人 was really a cut above the others in my opinion. I found the plot so good I wanted to read the novel it was inspired from, just didn’t have time to find a way to get it.
This is terrible because I started the last of the Otsuichi audiobooks available on weixin dushu. I really don’t know what I will listen to afterwards, or how I’m going to do without those short stories available to listen to. I started this at the beginning of May, and since then I listened to five collections of short stories by Otsuichi in Mandarin, in their Chinese translation. I really got used to it… what am I going to do once I finish 来自沉船的爱意???
There are two major new things that happened on September: reading wuxia fiction on a regular basis and buying a small tablet to play Genshin. I think I’m going to play much more in the future and post more about it, as this was meant as much as a gaming journal than a reading journal
