The next short story was so short, I was tempted to start it and read it in one go. I loved it, I was not expecting this end at all.

I was close to pity on the standard banner, and monthly wishes brought me Mona (C1)… I know chances were thin to get Mizuki, but I was hoping still. I already lost 50/50 to her once, which I consider extremely lucky.

Two copies I pulled on her initial banner, one was free with the standard selector, one I got from a 50/50, the next two ones will be free (the constellation selector, and hopefully the standard selector for the anniversary), so I’m missing just one copy to get her C6.

I’m thinking of the next book I’ll read in Korean, and I wanted to read something by 전건우 (there are a lot of titles available as e-books that I want to read), but there’s also this book: 한국사 이상현상 연구원 by 최인서 that looks so cool. I’m seeing it everywhere, it was first published on Postype and just released paper and is already in the best-sellers rankings. It’s 500 pages long though, and it’s historical too. I’m not sure, but it might also be about different periods of Korean history, so I’m really not sure whether I can read it. It looks quite hard, and its length makes it all the more intimidating…

Finished it! It was SF/horror rather than legal thriller this time. The story was good, but I’m really not a big fan of SF.

I found the film really great, and acting was so good too. The plot is solid, the atmosphere great and even the father-son relationship was interesting (I usually dislike the convention that our lead detective must have problems of their own that we must spend 1/3 of the book/film addressing). But towards the end, there are some quite cliché scenes, a telegraphed foreshadowing, and I get that they want the final confrontation to be more private (our hero against the villain, in a final action scene) rather than having the police barging into the house and simply arresting the culprit, but at least it should be even remotely motivated? The end felt too much like it was following a conventional path with obligatory scenes, even if it meant that characters’ actions didn’t make much sense.

I think that so far 애니 is my least favourite short story, which is not surprising given that I’m not really into SF, we get so many discussions about AI already irl, I’m not really looking forward to seeing similar topics in my fiction. The story is not bad at all though, just not really my thing.

Had time for one more chapter today!

I read the first two chapters, we get to see yet another aspect of police procedures and administrative tasks, it’s so interesting. Especially because you get to see different aspects of the same procedures across different books. The first chapter alone made me see some scenes from previous books with a new eye!
The character called 許家偉 though… is he really the same as in 警察執勤中：正義的代價? I feel like I’m watching a series, but I missed a whole season…

Maybe I was supposed to read 警察執勤中：宣戰角頭 first, that is, just after 警察執勤中：正義的代價? Which would make sense given that they share the same title… Oh well, given that I’m already 20% I’ll just continue now.

I’m out of new words, I’ll need to add some today then!

許家偉? you mean 阿弟仔？ So this novel is also linked to 警察執勤中：正義的代價! I was wondering whether it’ll be a completely different setting, or if we’ll be in the same fictional world than 警察執勤中：正義的代價!, or even if it would follow with characters and events. But I somehow did not expect Hsu Chia-wei to appear again.

I now have two types of flashcards: the regular one for words (that also shows single characters and example sentences), and a new one for characters. It’s two directions, shows words associated with it that are in my wordbook, and shows me in priority the characters appearing in words I have the lowest ease. It also displays the words as well as pronunciation and examples in Japanese and Korean, though I only look at it for reference, I’m not testing myself on this.

We’ll see if I continue with it, I’m afraid it’s going to add a lot of work, but I can keep the quotas low on this one.

I wanted to read more today, but I’m too tired… Story is great so far, it’s based on an interesting idea!

I just started 애니, it’s speculative fiction! I was not expecting SF in this collection, I wonder how it will connect to judicial topics (if it does).

Finished 手胶卷中的少女, listened to it during my Sunday run. The end was quite good! I found that the background music was a bit too much though…

I did Eagle’s anecdote, I really don’t like the new format. If it’s only text to read, I would prefer to have the whole dialogue as static text rather than having it displayed line by line. The story was also not particularly engaging?
