I really love this novel! It’s really well written, the characters have a lot of depth and the story is suspenseful.

I especially loved the family dynamic (almost all the characters are from the same family), the generation gap between Sang-jo who values owning the family land and the younger generations who think in terms of investment, money and profit. It was also interesting to see how events affect Yu-hwa and Hyung-yong relationship, and overall I found all the characters really well written. I find that even without the main thread of the curse, just following the character as greed tear them apart was really great. And of course the mystery surrounding the land makes the novel even more engrossing.

The setting was also excellent, it made me want to visit Gunsan! Though it’s not a historical mystery, the origin of the plot starts during the Japanese Occupation period, which does give a historical flavour to the novel.

One of my favourite Korean novels read this year!

Only one chapter left, I’ll probably finish it this evening then.

I wanted to read a little bit more, but I’ll stop here. I’m still only half interested in the story, and I find the character of Chiharu really fade and lacking any kind of personality, but the story is not bad either so I’ll continue.

I really need to make an effort to go back to 誰かがこの町で. It’s really not bad, it’s just that I don’t care at all, and I don’t think the novel really gave me a reason to.

We’re investigating the fate of a family that disappeared years ago, but we don’t know anything about them and we don’t have any reason to care about them. The mother was a university friend of a character for whom our protagonist works for. That’s a pretty weak link.

As for the other thread, there’s more a sense of urgency, but our narrator Chiharu is so desperately passive it’s annoying. I get that the novel is describing a patriarchal micro society where men decide for women and some scenes did make me mad, but there was no need to make Chiharu so dull and submissive to create that effect.

I really need to give the novel a chance though. I’ll focus on it today, try to read at least 20% more to really get into the story.

It’s so hard to only read one chapter per day! It’s so addictive and suspenseful. I love Li Xunhuan’s sarcasm so much, it’s never boring being with him.

And A Fei’s appearances are always so cool and impactful. he looks like the author’s favourite character.

The cutscene was fantastic! I won’t pretend I understood the lyrics, but the song was beautiful.
I really loved Lan Yan and 万象风角灵官 dynamic, what a duo! The generation thing was also very interesting. It was a good story with both lore and important character development for Lan Yan.

I still have most of the mini games to do.

I haven’t progressed this one as much as I wanted today.

I’m exactly halfway through the book and halfway through the third story!

I’m tempted to just finish the chapter, but I need to open my other books too, so I’ll stop here for today. I’ll probably finish it tomorrow.

I finished chapter 2, it was so so great!!! It was so nice to see Liyue cast again, especially Xiao of course.

I loved the humour and the lore, I really like how it’s built from event to event, but people who haven’t played through the Lantern Rite about the Eight Adepts (八奇) must be completely lost? I think it was from two years ago and not permanent.

I think this film had a lot of potential, but the second half completely departed from the original idea, and the film suffered from it in my opinion.

I enjoyed watching the first half, the scenes at the apartment had a lot of tension, and the whole broadcast idea was very good. The challenges faced by Sun-yung (like recalling what she said or which music she played) were really good, and overall the underlying motive of Dong-su ended up being very interesting.

The second half turns into an action thriller, with conventional action scenes, not much suspense, and nothing that makes the film stands out. It loses what made it unique in the first place. I found the end of the movie mostly boring.

I was planning on reading a little bit of each novel today, but I ended up finishing chapter 3! It’s impossible to put down, I really really love this novel.
