Starting the day with some early reading! I would have preferred not waking up at 4 though… I might come back for another chapter later in the day.

My next book in Chinese is going to be for the Readmoo challenge: 同名偵探事務所 by 王少杰. There’s actually another book I wanted to read more by the same author (春天的幻影), but it makes sense to start with the one listed for the challenge.
Interestingly, I saw that the author made a YouTube playlist of songs, I imagine, they are songs appearing in the book. Whenever a song appears in a novel, I listen to it if I didn’t know it, so this will make things easier to me.
I’ll start it tomorrow!
I was planning on playing Genshin today, but I ended up finishing my Japanese novel instead. I can’t believe the new patch releases next week already. I personally really like the new region every two patches rhythm because it matches my pace. Though this time, I’m not even halfway through all the exploration of the first maps, I think my total progress is something like 20%. But good thing is that I’ll have Vesna to explore 
Looking at the authors I read the most (at least 5 books), they’re all Japanese authors except for Yen Yu (Taiwan) and Jeong Gunwoo (South Korea). It makes sense, given that I’ve been reading in Japanese for much longer than the other two languages.
I don’t know if I was not it the right mood to completely enjoy the book, or if it really was a bit slow, but even though I think the story is great, I also never felt entirely involved in the story and I didn’t really care about finding out the truth.
I found the story and tragedy very good, and even though I found the novel a bit slow and repetitive at first, it does build a good foundation to make revelations of the last parts more impactful. The end was also excellent and scary. Maybe the problem to me was that characters lack substance, our author Kobayashi, persons who join the investigation mid-way and the characters more deeply related to the case… I felt like in the end we never really get to know any of them. I guess it’s probably intended, to focus more on the investigation and documents gathered, but to me maybe the story was a bit dry? maybe it lacked something to make it more compelling? Or again, maybe this choice is perfect for the intended purpose, and I was just not being the best reader for it.
I’m impressed that it is a debut novel, and I’ll definitely be on the lookout for author’s next publications.
I didn’t plan on finishing it today, but the end read very fast somehow!
Finished 死亡之车. I really loved it! I loved the mix of horror and suspense with still recurring themes like school bullying and isolation.
Since I started this website, I’ve been diligently logging all the films and series I watched. Every year, I promise myself I would do that in my Hobonichi, but it always last one or two months at most. I love writing and journaling, why has it always been so hard to be consistent about it? And every time I regret, because then I can’t remember which films I’ve seen during the year. In December, when thinking about which was my favourite film watched this year, I would never be able to even remember what I had watched at all. Like maybe 2 or 3 movies at best.
This year, I can’t remember what I watched before May… but at least, I can tell my favourite films so far, and it’s in this order: 消失的人/Vanishing Point > Hope > 군체/Colony.
Wow this film was just perfect, I absolutely loved it. Images of Chongqing were so striking with all these apartment complex so close to each other. I really loved this setting and the way it was depicted. It was both fascinating, and very well used in the plot too.
The story was so good too, everything makes sense in the end, no loose end. It’s a really good mystery, not just a thriller Actors were fantastic as well.
There’s not much to say, I found this film absolutely fantastic.
It’s a Mainland Chinese production, but the director Cheng Wei-hao is Taiwanese. Now I’m tempted to watch 關於我和鬼變成家人的那件事/Marry my Dead Body, I heard a lot of good things about this film, but comedy and romance are not really my thing, though if it’s also a mystery and as good as 消失的人, I’ll probably enjoy it.
I’m kind of tempted to read 海葵 by 贝客邦. It’s not currently available on weixin dushu, but if I find a way to get the book, I’m interested in reading the original story.
Read some pages in a coffeshop this afternoon. I found the story quite slow during the first half, but now we start having shocking discoveries, the book is becoming much more suspenseful.
It’s so annoying that I have this book paper, because I won’t be able to take it with me outside this afternoon. So that’s probably all the progress I’ll make today.
And one more chapter! This one was pretty good too, I start really loving the characters now.
Read another chapter today. I’m warming up to the story. Still not really the kind of novels I enjoy reading the most, but the book is quite good.
I don’t read leaks but my husband does and tells me when there’s something I might want to know. It would be so great if Xiao really got a skin… at the same time, I’m scared of what they’re going to do, because I dislike most of the skins we have. I don’t like evening dresses for female characters, and I don’t like how they brought Fontaine fashion everywhere. I hope it’s going to be in the same vibe as his normal outfit…
Alright, one chapter done, and I’m back into the story now! I kind of regret not doing a character list for this one. There aren’t a lot of characters, but if I’m going to stay more than a week without touching the book, it would have helped.
Oh well, now I’m back, and hopefully I won’t put it aside anymore. I’ll try to read one or two more chapters today.
Halfway through! I like the book overall, but I found the first half a bit slow, though the last pages have introduced new elements that make the story more suspenseful.
I’m listening to 死亡之车, this short story is quite suspenseful, and it feels different from the others too.
Not much reading done today…
I’m really grateful for this book to be so easy to read, perfect for a day like today when I’m feeling sick and have a constant headache.
I’m so tired today, I’m not doing much. I did watch some footage of Aniimo, and it’s really unfortunate, but it looks like a game I could enjoy. I can’t add a new game of this scale to my life… I don’t even have time to play Where Winds Meet…. And when Petit Planet releases it’s going to be over.
